The stories about how some Peruvian fans quit their jobs or even put on weight to get in disabled seats sound even more pathetic now that they've been eliminated. Talk about blind nationalism.
I hadn’t heard that, but I’m amazed at the presence of hundreds of fans from Argentina, Nigeria, Brazil, Costa Rica, Mexico, Tunisia, Panama, Colombia and Senegal, all these countries are thousands of miles from Russia.
I can understand the wealthy few who can fly there and stay in good hotels, but Nigeria, Mexico, Costa Rica, Tunisia, Panama, and Senegal are hardly populated by hundred of people who can afford to go to Russia.
France, Denmark, Iran, Croatia, England, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, Sweden, and Poland are all within reasonable striking distance, but how many fans have the dough to go to Russia until their team gets knocked out, or goes all the way to the finals?

In terms of income, Mexico and Brazil are more or less in the same level.
Costa Rica and Panamá are quite wealthy for latin america standards.

All of these countries have large diasporas living in wealthier countries.
The US is home to something like 40 millions of Mexicans, I bet a great deal of Mexico's fans present in Russia are actually US immigrants which could explain the large Mexican presence.
Lol Mexico has 120 million people, I'm sure they can find a thousand who are wealthy enough to go to Russia. Not to mention that Mexico really isn't that poor, average wages in the richer parts of the country would be like $1000/month

I guess the western Europeans fans are in smaller numbers in Russia because the prejudice they have for Russia as well the fear of the Russians hooligans, especially the English, Germans and French.
In Brazil the package for the world cup in Russia has been sold in average for 15.000 reais(USD 4.000) it is 2 months salary of professional workers, middle class, expensive but not that impossible for would say 30% of Brazilians. Is not something only for the really wealthy Brazilians, 70.000 Brazilians are in Russia.

That is an incredible statement. These countries might be pretty poor, but it's ridiculous to assume that there aren't a few thousands that can afford a flight ticket to Russia.
