Very tall players would be too heavy and too fragile for so much running and so many leg-on-leg collisions. With more substitutions or more players per team, they could have someone parked at the box waiting for headers.
Unlike basketball being 'tall' is not important, being skilful and fit is. Its about positioning and having an ability to read the game too. If all you needed was to be 'tall' and fast then Usain Bolt would be playing football instead of running and Messi would not have become one of the greatest players of all time.
Usain is actually trying to get on a pro soccer team. And you can be tall and fast as well as have good football sense. With the amount of competition to get on teams, every advantage helps.

Good for him, unfortunately for him though he is going to need an awful lot more than speed and strength to make it as a pro, of course anybody can play and enjoy football and find their 'level' but one thing for sure, you won't be seeing Usain Bolt pulling on a Man U or Chelsea shirt anytime soon.

Yeah, Messi is only 5’ 7”......Neymar is only 5’ 9”....the legendary Pele 5’ 8”...Maradonna 5’ 6”
You don’t have to be tall to be good.
Though the average soccer play height has krept up ....a lot of todays players are
pretty tall ...well over 6’ ....like england’s striker Kane is 6’ 2” and a big built dude

At one point Wide receivers in football and running backs were all short. But they started getting taller. Defensive backs have also followed suit in order to match physically.

That's because football is a game about both strength and speed, soccer is mostly just speed. You don't need someone to be like Lebron - 6 foot 8, 250 pounds in soccer. Or even like Richard Sherman, or Andre Johnson.
Why are centre forward position in association football not seeing players coming in that are as tall as basketball forwards or volleyball spikers?
It be advantageous for corner kicks. The goalies are usually tall, and can use their hands. So it seems to being taller be better because you need as much height as you can.
There are tall centre forwards but they are usually equivalent to a point guard in bball. Guys like Zlatan, Graziano Pelle were tall but not as tall as Lebron or Kevin Durant. How would Lebron or Kevin Durant do in soccer as centre forwards.
Ice hockey has guys like Zdeno, and tyler Myers and Brian Boyle who are all tall enough to play forward in BBall, and hockey is a grueling sport also.
I'd like to see Lebron run up and down a soccer field for one and a half hours. The taller you are the slower you are to get back and defend.

There are plenty of players as tall as either Sherman and Johnson. Those two are listed as 6'3". I am thinking maybe the players can actually get taller than that.
