Leipzig has had some terrible results since they resumed play. Their goal for the final 6 games or so of this season should be holding off Monchengladbach & Leverkusen for the final Champs League spot because the top spot has officially set sail.

Both are currently above the drop Mainz (1 up) and Eintracht Frankfurt (2 up), but if there's a loser in that game next weekend that team could end up being in big trouble come relagation at the end of the season. Of course Frankfurt is playing Bayern in the DFB Pokal cup semifinal AND is still alive in the Euro League (if that ever resumes) so that would be very awkward if they won one of those 2 tournaments yet got dropped down to Bundesliga 2 next year.

Bayer Leverkusen FINALLY gained some distance yesterday...Looking good in 3rd place, but RasenBallsport Leipzig just one point behind them play Monday June 1 Vs FC Koln, and they could be in 3d place come Monday PM

2 more dropped points from Leipzig over the weekend after they finished the game with 10 men (for the second week in a row) and saw Paderborn equalize late. They got lucky Monchengladbach lost to Freiburg, and Wolfsburg is probably too far back at this point in the season, but they are not making it easy on themselves for a CL match. Monchengladbach plays Bayern & Wolfsburg the next 2 match days, but then finishes with 2 winnable games, and Bayer Leverkusen is finished with the top 8, while RB leipzig still has the game against Dortmund second to last matchday of the season. They have not made it easy on themselves!!

Not much going on in the final week. The top 7 are set, so unforunately with Freiburg's loss to Bayern Munich coupled with Hoffenheim's win they will not be able to qualify for the Europa league. And the bottom 3 are set after Mainz' wins over Dortmund and Werder Bremen last weekend they have stayed off the regulation battle while even if Koln and Augsburg both lose they are still 2 up on the chasing pack. The 3 things to watch out for tomorrow (well 4 if you are following the 2. Bundesiga at all which I'll get to last):

1) Who gets the final spot for the Champs League?? Right now Bayern is through as champs for the 8th (7th??) straight year and Dortmund will finish runners up no matter what happens. Currently Leipzig is 3rd, Monchengladbach 4th and Leverkusen 5th). Leipzig has a +27 GD lead on Leverkusen, so unless they kick the ball into their own net every time they possess it, or Mainz kicks the ball into their own net against Leverkusen or a combination of the 2, Leipzig will be in the Champs League no matter what happens. Monchengladbach (vs. Hertha Berlin) currently have a 2 point lead AND will hold the goal differential tiebreaker on Leverkusen so they only likely need to draw to become the 4th team. Leverkusen (vs. Mainz) need to win first off, and than either: A) Have Monchengladbach lose to Hertha or B) have Monchengladbach draw Hertha AND somehow Leverkusen has to make up 9 goals. I love Leverkusen, but yah good luck with that! Our best hope is that Hertha comes to play like they did last weekend and knock off Monchengladbach

2) Who gets the final Euopa League group stage spot. With Leverkusen and Bayern Munich paying in the Pokal final, germany got a 7th spot which Hoffenheim took. Leverkusen likely, but Mochengladbach if Leverkusen passes them will be 1 of 2 teams going straight to the Europa League group stage. Now both Hoffenheim & Wolfsburg have officially qualified for the Europa League but one will head straight to the group while the other will go in in one of the qualifying rounds, and on the final match day they are square even at 49 points. Wolfsburg is home to Bayern Munich while Hoffenheim travels to Dortmund and with Wolfsburg holding the goal differential tiebreaker (currently at +6 to Hoffenheim's -4) they just need to match what Hoffenheim does and they finish 6th to gain entry to Europa League at the group stage.

3) Which team will be relegated. Both Dusseldorf and Werder Bremen will be relegated but one wil head straight down while 1 will head to the tiebreaker. Dusseldorf is at Union Berlin while Werder Bremen hosts Koln. Right now Dusseldorf has a 2 point lead AND leads in the goal differential tiebreaker, so even if they draw, unless Bremen beats Koln by 4 or more goals which I don't think happens, Dusseldorf will head to the playoff while Bremen drops down to the 2. Bundesliga

4) Speaking of the 2. Bundesliga: Which team plays in the relegation playoff? Arminia Bielefeld has already clinched promation as they have been confirmed champs and for arguments sake we'll say Stuttgart will join them as well via automatic promation since they are 3 points clear of 3rd AND have a goal differential lead of +23 to +12, so we'll just make this Heidenheim vs. Hamburger. Heidenheim has the tougher game (@ Bielefeld) while Hamburger hosts mid table Sandhausen. Hamburger will have the goal differential tiebreaker should they draw & Heidenheim loses, and even if they draw they still need Hamburger to win since Heidenheim is a point up. Hamburger has been shooting themselves in the foot since the restart and knowing their luck they'll see Heidenheim has taken a draw @ Bielefeld they'll be up by 1 in the 5th minute of 5 minute stoppage time, Sandhausen gets a corner kick and Hamburger will head/kick/deflect the ball into their own net off the corner kick for the last kick of the game, that would be my nightmare. By the way the 2. Bundesliga final games are on Sunday while the Bundesliga games are on Saturday.

My picks, and lets see how wrong I am come Sunday night:

1) Monchengladbach joins Munich, Dortmund & leipzig in the champions league
2) Wolfsburg wins the final Europa group stage spot as even with a loss to Bayern its enough as Hoffenheim loses @ Dortmund
3) Werder Bremen beats Koln 3 goals to 0, but it's not enough as Stuttgart gets a draw at Union Berlin.
4) Hamburger plays to their potential and gets a dominating win vs. Sandhausen while Heidenheim only manages a draw @ Bielefield so Hamburger goes to the playoff
5) And as a bonus pick Hamburger beats Dusseldorf in the playoff to head back to the Bundesliga after a 2 year abscense.

HSV are making the return difficult for themselves. I thought they would bounce right back

These games back from the restart have been brutal. The game last week vs. Heidenheim was incredibly painful. In the first half, they played as if they would run away, second half it's been playing like a relegation/bottom of the table team

There must be immense pressure on coach at HSV. That team is not used to being in second league

Welp HSV HSV'd it....5-1 loss at home to mid table Sandhausen, so even with their 3-0 loss to Bielefeld Heidenheim plays Werder Bremem in the playoffs. Bremen trounced mismatched Koln to the tune of 5-1 or maybe even 6-1 (I stopped paying attention after 5), which was enough as Dusseldorf lost to Union Berlin. As expected Wolfsburg lost to Bayern Munich, but what wasn't expected was Hoffenheim beating Dortmund, so Hoffenheim gets the final Europa League group spot while Wolfsburg has to go through the qualifying playoff. Both Leverkusen and Monchengladbach won so Monchengladbach gets the final Champs League spot while Leverkusen joins Hoffenheim in the Europa League group stage. And speaking of Hamburg, how bad was it for them since the restart?? In almost half of their games since the restart (4 out of 9) they allowed either the tying goal or the winning goal in second half stoppage time.

Game 1 @ Greuther Furth they were leading 2-1 before an equalizer from Furth in the 94th minute
Game 3 @ Stuttgart they were tied 2-2 and Stuttgart hit the winner in the 92nd minute
Game 5 vs. Holstein Kiel had a 3-2 lead and Kiel hit the equalizer in the 93rd minute
Game 8 @ Heidenheim, the killer game. Up 1-0, an own goal in the 80th minute ties the game, and then Heidenheim hits the winner in the 95th.

If they tie EITHER the Stuttgart or Heidenheim games they are in the playoffs.
If they tie win BOTH of the Furth or Kiel then they can still lose both the Heidenheim and Stuttgart games and still make the playoff (if we play everything else out that happen Stuttgart would still finish 2nd on goal differential anyways)
If they had tied BOTH the Stuttgart and Heidenheim games and won either of the Furth or Kiel games they wouldn't even need to worry about the playoff because they'd be automatically promoted as that scenario would've given them second place.

Just horrible all around. Brazil in 2014 was the last team I saw that was more mentally weak.

I don't think Werder has any trouble with Heidenheim in the playoff. I'm thinking a 2-0 or 3-0 advantage after the first leg and probably 1-1 or 0-0 the second leg, so I'll say Bremen 4-1 on aggregate (3-0 first leg; 1-1 second leg).

pleased to see Gladbach in the champions league. What now for HSV? They must be bitterly disappointed another year out of the Bundesliga
