It's not the Vancouver Whitecaps and Portland Timbers that are becoming MLS teams. (Actually I'm posting this before I heard about Portland ) but rather the cities of Vancouver and possibly Portland that are getting MLS franchises.
Just like Seattle, they will be different teams than the ones that played in the USL. Whether they remain known as the Timbers and Whitecaps is yet to be determined
With Portland, it's the same ownership group. In Vancouver, the name is assumed.

It was pretty much the same ownership group in Seattle too with the exception of Drew Carey picking up the slack. They still didn't want to be called the Sounders because they wanted to distinguish that they are an MLS team now and not USL. It was the public vote that got us the name

From what I have read, the names are going to be used for both sides.
In fact, Vancouver is going to be known as Whitecaps FC without Vancouver on it.
I never said that the USL sides were becoming MLS franchises. They have similar ownership but will be a different organization. I never said anything different in my post.
Also, it is not that Vancouver and Portland are being granted MLS franchises. It is the ownership groups are being granted franchises and are choosing to place their teams in those cities.
I am well aware of that. The application is about 120-150 pages long. But, I dont know what else you would be referring to that could be upped by the MLS using St. Louis.

Yes, and I voted twice. I think Seattle set the precedent for the others, though. People want the heritage.
Here is an article about St. Louis and the need for investors

They had a great stadium deal set up in collinsville, 15 minutes from downtown St. Louis.
They do now. They didnt always have all that. At one time or another, they have struggled with everything you listed. They are still struggling with getting enough financial backing.
