The biggest surprise is probably Chicago not making it.

Agreed, and my hope is that improves Indy's chances of making the final 12.

What was the criteria? An existing team, or just a big stadium?

If you get it I hope England don't qualify like last time. I would be ashamed of the culture clash when several thousand drunken yobs descend on a city.

England will most likely get 2018. US can try 2022. I prefer Houston over Dallas as one of the cities, although Arlington's brand new Cowboys stadium would be terrific. Along with Standford, Rose Bowl and Pontiac Silverdome. Don't recommend NY; traffic is a nightmare.

silverdome - really?!

that place is in not so great shape

massive building, but the combination of old astroturf and outdated facilities wouldn't make it a strong candidate unless the new owners put in serious work

Detroit/Pontiac didn't make the list.

The Silverdome hosted the Group A and Group B games in USA '94.

Incidentally, the OP needs to update his list. Denver is missing. I much prefer Candidate Venues. It gives a better picture of what each stadium offers.
