Orchids Paper Products broke ground on its$125 million facility, near the Barnwell Airport. Jeff Schoen, President and CEO of the company said the paper making and converting site will bring 134 technical jobs to the area. Workers will produce a variety of paper products such as toilet tissue and napkins.
“The types of jobs will be technical jobs. This is not a minimum wage, plant at all. The jobs are going to be well-paying jobs. People will be trained. We will be giving ongoing training, both technical as well as working in a high-performance work team environment,” said Schoen, President & CEO of Orchids Paper.
Mayor Edward Lemon, of Barnwell said the jobs are needed.
“We had a bad turn down in the economy around here and we lost around 600 jobs. We lost two textile mills and it really, really hurt our economy around here, so this is really a boom for us.”
