I can't tell you how much nonsense I have heard from my neighbors here in New York when I tell them I want to move to South Carolina. Many truly believe that the world does not exist out side the north east. Even more crazy is that I will not find work as a teacher in a southern school because they will always hate me as a Yankee. I want to get away from the very feeling that exists up in New York. If you like to hunt and fish you are a red neck. Well I do enjoy both but here in the bastions of materialism it’s not what you do but what you have. I have heard from many southerners that a lot of New York retirees do move down south and bring their New York attitude with them. It is probably the reason why many do wish they would go back north. Well I have family in the south and have never been disrespected in any way, shape or form during my travels through the south. Still I am a private person and don’t mind others people’s business.

I am a teacher looking to relocate to SC also. I live in UPstate NY where rednecks are quite abundant! We just want to get away from snow and ice.

Good teachers are welcome anywhere; it doesn't matter where they're from.

Don't worry about them! They are probably jealous wishing it was them. Most of our friends are happy for us (we're moving within 6 mos) now they'll have a place to stop over on their way to Florida.
Good luck!

Yeah I know my friends and my kids here SC and they think I'm moving to po-dunk. Well if Myrtle beach is po-dunk I'll take po-dunk anyday. Don'y these NY'ers know thousands from the North east reside there?

I will say it was the best decision we made moving. We moved from NJ to Myrtle Beach, SC - the Carolina Forest area. Most of my neighbors are from NJ & NY. Everyone seems nicer here -

HCS Home

This is a website for the Horry County schools if you like to look at it. My son was tutored by one of the teachers and she was from PA.

I don't see why people think we are nuts - it really is a better life here, I think. I am 10 minutes to the beach, a brand new house, a great development, nice weather, and tons of stuff to do.

We do miss, good bagels & pizza!

Oh yeah I have to agree with that. I lived in upstate Ny and rednecks ruled. I have to laugh when my brother in-law from upstate NY says I'm moving to po-dunk......LOL

I'm on Long Island and it's contagious. Up here on the North Shore most think that the South Shore is, if not rednecks, than a lower class of people. People out in the Hamptons think that the whole island exists just so they can drive to the Hamptons, and of course the folks in Manhattan think everything east of the Mid-Town Tunnel is the country and chocked full of rubes.

It's a funny world.

As one Long Islander looking to get out... people here can think what they want... I just want warmer weather, nice people in a relatively small town and good neighbors.

Sheena - that is so great. When are you moving? Will your kids go to Ocean Bay or Carolina Forest - they are both good schools.

I will say when I first moved I kept saying I miss NJ - but when I went back to visit I couldn't wait to get back to SC. I will always love NJ - but it is great here!
