//pics3.city-data.com/forum/images/icons/icon1.gifSouthern town for novel!
Ok, I'm writing a novel and I've been looking all over the internet but not getting much luck.
Its set in a southern state- a small town that has big expensive mansions and by the sea but not a great communty atmosphere. Somewhere you could move and not get much attention- no nosy neighbours- but an expensive place. Cliffs and caves on private beaches type thing-- does that even exists in the south.
i have no idea and need help. if anything comes to mind please let me know.
Yeah, cliffs and caves are not along the southern seaboard. You'll need to modify your setting if you need the story to take place in the south. Or, like waccamatt says, try upper New England. Good luck.
I'm not sure you'll find exactly what you are talking about, but some initial ideas are Dataw Island, Dewees Island and Dafuskie Island--all Beaufort/Hilton Head area sea islands.
Does it matter if it is an island with expensive golf course homes and/or exclusive resorts, or does it need to be largely uninhabited by retirees and tourists?

Reason: To clarify
As for the cliffs and caves things...our equivalent in terms of natural coastal landforms might be lowcountry marshes and tidelands...which would be awesome for your book if I may venture to say so!
Dafuskie Island also comes to my mind and Beaufort too. Is your book set in modern times or in the past? You may have to change your setting a bit to make it legit/realistic because as others have said, coastal Southern towns do not have cliffs and caves.
Hey G-man....she was looking for Coastal communities with Cliffs/Caves, etc..... that is why we didn't mention the Cliffs communities and GSM region. But it's good thatyou mention it... she might be able to reorient her setting a bit......
It has everything you have mentioned (okay well sans the caves) and is small enough to walk everywhere.
When you take a trip to Beaufort, DON'T stay in a chain motel. There are 1 or 2 short term rentals (vrbo.com) inside their lovely Antebellum historic district. You will get a view of everything and wow, there sure are juicy personalities living in the district's mansions and cottages!
