There's not a lot of information about this depot. The internet tells me it was built for the South Bound Railway in 1893. What it does not tell me is that it eventually served two railroads. The The South Carolina Railroad & Canal Company also served Denmark. A picture I found online shows railroad tracks going down in front of the building along the current road right of way. That makes me wonder if it was not actually built for that railroad instead or at least was built for both at the same time. The South Carolina Railroad & Canal Company would eventually become the much easier to remember Southern Railway. Meanwhile, the South Bound Railway would eventually become Seaboard Air Line, later Seaboard Coast Line and then CSX. This depot still sees two trains a day, Amtraks Silver Star, one in each direction
Looking like we d another day trip in the next week or two and am deciding where to go to shoot trains. The Laurens/Belton/Anderson loop has worked out well for me in the past.
I wonder if those Greenville and Western locos are former Southern?
EDIT: Looked it up my self. Former B&O. Built 1957.
Yes, Baltimore & Ohio GP9s by way of the East Cooper & Berkley on the South Carolina coast. They also have those two former Santa Fe GP30s. I believe only one of them have been repainted green so far.
Those Pickens units are former Seaboard Coast Line U18Bs, the only locomotives of that model still working anywhere.
Nice shot brother. She is a beauty, and we're lucky to have it.
