Germany-based limited assortment/discount grocer Aldi may be opening a second store in Anderson. It has petitioned Anderson City Council to annex and rezone five acres on Highway 28 Bypass.

Default Walmart Neighborhood Market, Pearman Dairy Road and Whitehall Road, Anderson, South Carolina

A Walmart Neighborhood Market supermarket proposed in the southeast quadrant at the intersection of Pearman Dairy Road and Whitehall Road in Anderson is on hold.

I read a conflicting statement the store is not moving forward.

Default Ingle's in Anderson County, South Carolina

Supermarket Ingle's is investing in four Anderson County stores.

Stores 39, 4396 Highway 24, Anderson, South Carolina 29626-5212; 239, 1900 North Main Street, Anderson, South Carolina 29621-8349; and 240, 2404 Highway 81 North, Anderson, South Carolina 29621-2505, are adding Starbucks kiosks. Ingle's #240 should be replacing its video department with a pharmacy department.

Ingle's #73, 10903 Anderson Road, Piedmont, South Carolina 29673-8202, is expanding to 71,000 square feet and should include a pharmacy drive thru, a Starbucks kiosk, and an Ingle's Gas Express. Expansion should begin later this year.

I'm glad to see that they are finally going to move forward with renovating the Powdersville store. The Powdersville area is growing quickly enough that I expect the investment by Ingles will be money well spent.

Default Ingle's #73, 10903 Anderson Road, Piedmont, South Carolina 29673-8202

The current Ingle's #73 is the oldest Ingle's store in Anderson County.

I think Ingle's #73's expansion will eventually be a complete new store. The first phase could be demolishing the first store 73 and former Revco. The second phase could be constructing two-thirds of the new store with bakery, delicatessen, floral, meat, seafood, and Starbucks departments; grocery and frozen food aisles; and the front end area. The third phase could be opening parts of the new store 73, and closing and demolishing the current store 73. The fourth and final phase could be adding the pharmacy department, walk-in beer cooler, and the remaining grocery and dairy aisles.

If they take up that entire center, it would be a massive store.

I'm hoping the finished store in Powdersville will be similar to the store in Easley off of US-123. There are certainly enough homes in the immediate area to support a nicer grocery store. The Bi-Lo over there is pretty run down. The Powdersville Walmart is much smaller than the Easley Walmart but it seems to be just as busy. Publix would be well served to find a location in that area for a store.

The new Ingle's #73 will look more like Ingle's new stores that have opened in North Carolina and Tennessee within the past four years. It will not resemble any of the current South Carolina stores.

BI-LO #5568, Powdersville Plaza, 3518 Highway 153, Greenville, South Carolina 29611-7553, is not performing well. Its hours of operation have been reduced. BI-LO #5568 once had the district office for BI-LO's Foothills Region's Greenville West district (District 103?).

Publix is due to open a store in the Powdersville trade area.

My distant (and possibly wrong) memory remembers the BiLo shopping center originally holding a Winn Dixie when I was a child.

I also remember a Food Lion or something similar located where the Lowes is now located in Easley.

Powdersville Plaza was anchored by a Winn-Dixie supermarket indeed. I do not recall the store location number for that Winn-Dixie. It must have closed in the early 1980's. I remember it being closed and boarded up in the late 1980's and 1990's before it was razed to make way for the BI-LO-anchored Powdersville Plaza.

I currently work in the Powdersville area - the Bi-Lo store on Hwy 153 is awful - there are a multitude of upscale neighborhoods in Powdersville that can support much better shopping/retail - when is Publix expected to start construction? (can't come soon enough!)
