No both schools are healthy size and operating well on their own. The superintedent is just being the superintendent. It wont happen. It would cost hundreds of thousands alone just to change the names. The city of Anderson will never allow this. Too many factors.
T. L. Hanna and Westside are the two largest high schools in Anderson County in terms of enrollment. Both schools are classified "AAAA" in the South Carolina High School League for athletics. The classification may change as "AAAAA" is being added for the 2016-2017 school year.
I do not see both high schools consolidating when their attendance areas are growing. Crossing Anderson to attend school on the other side of town is illogical.
I would like to see another proposal that involves building a new Westside High School, either on its existing site or at another location.
And Westside doesnt need to be rebuilt...its perfectly fine as is. Both schools are around 1,800 and not overcrowded. We need no new schhool or new buildings. This is just something the superintedent thought up while he was bored.

Westside High School may be fine for now at its current site. What will happen in five or ten years when enrollment increases and there is not enough space to add classrooms and athletic fields and facilities?
South Carolina Highway 24 and Lake Hartwell has seen growth over the past 20 years through new residential communities and businesses, including the relocation of two supermarkets. Additional households mean more students in the Westside High School attendance area.
From my high school coaching circles, this has nothing to do with growth. It has to do with athletics and saving money by selling other school campuses (McCants Middle) and pumping that money into athletics. The new super wants to be a football superpower similar to Byrnes where all the schools feed into one mega school with the all the middle schools and the rec department on the same page as the high school. He set the groundwork for this when he was at Buford City Schools in Georgia. That school is now a powerhouse over there in their respective class.
