McLaughlin Ford has its "Coming Soon" sign up in the lot between Tractor Supply and Springhill Suites.

So, that must mean that highway project on that side of town is a go. Bradley's market didn't waste anytime moving from the area, they were right next door to McLaughlin Ford.

I just saw on another local neighborhood chat site, that Publix purchased property on Broad street near Wal-Mart. There is an empty lot right next to Lowe's facing Alice Drive.

If Publix recently acquired property, it should take Sumter County several days to list it on its records.

I could see Alice Drive being relevant if there is residential development planned northward of Broad Street.

I don't know if this is facts though, or just the latest on the rumor mill. But this is what a poster on the Nextdoor Wise Drive neighborhood site was talking about. Maybe that poster is also a member here on CD.

Publix securing a location in the Broad Street/Alice Drive trade area remains speculation. If more concrete details of a 45,600 or 49,098-square-foot grocer with a pharmacy drive thru come along, it could be Publix.

I'm surprise that empty property right there next to Lowe's, and across from Wal-Mart is still not developed yet. That is prime location there and a heavy traffic area. Almost anything should do well there.

It would be logical to build on Alice Drive if sites northward are being developed.

Absolutely, I don't see anywhere else they could put it.

If there is more development around Camden Highway and Alice Drive, I could see a grocery-anchored retail center locating there. Any further development westward along Broad Street will be near Shaw Air Force Base.
