Part of it may be marketing.. I don't know that Sumter does all that good a job at marketing itself in SC much less beyond the state.. I know there are quite a few tournaments that come to the City with the Tennis and Baseball complex that bring in people from around the State and possibly the Southeast. Shaw has activities/festivals and then there is the Iris Festival. .I think once downtown gets on more solid footing.. the city can go out with a full blown marketing campaign.. just in SC alone and maybe start to change that image. I mean all the parents that come down for the tournaments alone would be a start since I know they often fill the hotels up Broad St..
City and county officials need to work harder at attracting good paying jobs. And if they can do that, other good things will come our way, or start to happen. You pretty much need a work force made up of mostly decent paying jobs for good things to come our way. I'm pretty sure market research uses that data to help determine where to invest and expand.
Do anybody know if something is getting ready to go up in front of the mall, directly across from the McDonald's. I see when that lot between the Rite Aid and the Chinese restaurant is sectioned off, and a piece of heavy equipment there.
I see where that is a discount tire store going up there in front of the mall. America's largest independent tire and wheel retailer is coming to Sumter, opening in June 2019, from the article. I just can't picture that going up there.
This is a survey that I took on line about the future of Sumter. All Sumter and Sumter County people please take a few minutes to do this survey. There are even sections to give your idea and feedback on how to improve our community.
Nice little video from Sumter County, with a aerial shot of court house buildings on the east side of downtown. Just click anywhere on the picture and the video should start playing.
From this weather video on top of the new judicial center, you can see the public works building in the far background. That's an eyesore in my opinion, and should be replaced with office buildings or something. It would improve the overall look on that side of the downtown area.
