You mean the same background checks and lists that allow this?

Actually a whole different set of background checks, but you bring up a point: this whole discussion has been centered around refugees, which undergo a process that is perhaps more rigorous than what most other people entering the country (or gaining access to sensitive areas) undergo. So why are refugees being singled out? My suspicion is that the focus on this one relatively small group has become a discussion of all immigration... and even a discussion of access to our nation by people from certain parts of the world and fitting certain descriptions.

My point was the intelligence of immigrants from anywhere in Syria coupled with a sympathetic and error prone bureaucracy is a recipe for failure. Considering the type of risk improper vetting could bring is it worth it? This "impressive amount of vetting" looks good on paper but fails in implementation. Socialism works on paper, yet is a functional failure.

We can't properly screen airport workers when actionable intelligence exists let alone if it's spotty.

You're suggesting the INS and the FBI are sympathetic to terrorists?

We have to stop all veesas for a while also! In the wake of September 11, some observers have emphasized the mismanagement of temporary visas, such as those issued to students and tourists, because all of the 19 hijackers were originally allowed into the country on temporary visas. Others have argued that there is a problem with illegal immigration, because at least three of the hijackers - four if Zacarias Moussaoui, who the U.S. government claims was the intended twentieth hijacker, is included - had overstayed their visas and were illegal aliens at the time of the attacks. But in fact the danger cannot be isolated to one type of immigration. Foreign-born Islamic terrorists have used almost every conceivable means of entering the country over the last decade. They have come as students, tourists, and business visitors. They have also been lawful permanent residents (LPRs) and naturalized U.S. citizens. They have sneaked across the border illegally, arrived as stowaways on ships, used false passports, or been granted amnesty. Terrorists have even exploited America's humanitarian tradition of welcoming those seeking asylum. At the time they committed their crimes, 16 of the 48 terrorists considered in this analysis were on temporary visas (primarily tourist visas); another 17 were lawful permanent residents or naturalized U.S. citizens; 12 were illegal aliens; and 3 of the 48 had applications for asylum pending.

Im more terrified of my fellow South Carolinians than I am of ISIS. Dont care too much what Nicki does. We can let in the woman and children. Regardless, still should have severe security checks and monitoring.

But honestly, if we're going to be shot up, itll likely be by another Dylan Roof before a Akbar Muhammad Asalamalakim, and you know it. They may be killing in the name of "religion" or "Allah", but look at the dozens of things weve killed each other over lately.

I mean, a girl in Alabama killed another person over a Crimson Tide football game last year...but we're scared of ISIS? I understand theyre a threat and theyre likely already here masquerading around, but truth is anyone here is capable, so its best to watch your back and stay alert regardless of who youre around and where you are. Dont feel uneasy just because the person around you is brown.

The difference is we know people that would kill someone over a football game. We don't know anything about the culture from across the seas!

Yes I'm sure that person knew her friend was going to snap and shoot her over a football game...

And yes we do know about overseas cultures, and we should. If you dont, that just means youre ignorant to anything not American.
