I am presently living in NC, but it seems quite expensive. Also, I am planning on purchasing a house and have a small herb business. It just seems like gas, food, sales tax, everything here is too high.

For those of you who have tried both states, what is your opinion?

SC native here, lived in Charlotte before moving to my current location (metro Atlanta).

Firstly, it all depends where you live in each state. Living in Charleston is going to be better than living in Goldsboro. Living in Raleigh is going to be better than living in Bennettsville.

But overall, I will say that I think that NC has benefited from making necessary investments in infrastructure, education, etc. and that's where higher taxes come into play.

Infrastructure is certainly better in most of NC.

Sales tax? The NC rate is lower than SC...and I've seen taxes in restaurants around the Charleston area, depending on municipality, upwards of 12%.

Cost of things in/around Charleston are super high compared to most places I'm familiar with in NC.

Happy hunting.

I like NC because I like Charlotte. I am a city person at heart, so while I have enjoyed living on the Coast (Myrtle Beach and Charleston), I am ultimately a fan of a place that has metropolitan amenities. I feel like there are more opportunities in NC.

there's not that much of a difference between the two. Everything tends to be more expensive in North Carolina though.

It is all a matter of opinion. I actually live in both states. I have a home near the beach in Charleston and a mountain home near Asheville. I love both places equally. It would be hard to choose one over the other. Gas prices are higher in NC, but otherwise other things are not as expensive as Charleston.

It seems as though you missed my point entirely.
