Of the cities with interstates, which would you say is the best? The most potential? The better system all together I guess. Greenville, Spartanburg, Columbia, Florence, Charleston? Which has the worst? Where would you rank each and why? Other than Myrtle Beach, which city needs a spur to it the most? Sumter, Greenwood, Hilton Head, Aiken? Thoughts and detailed responses would be great. There seems to be a heightened appreciation lately in the DOT for our interstates which is what brings these questions to mind.
And just for the record, I’d say the best goes to Greenville, but the most potential goes to Cola. I’d say Charleston, but there’s not much room to do anything more than extend 526 (I know, I know) or build a second perimeter there. And of the ones that need a spur, I’d say Greenwood. Hilton Head is definitely growing, but at some point it’ll max out space. Whereas that can’t happen with Greenwood.

Charleston probably needs new highways into the city the most but at the same time geography and growth has already mostly screwed us.
There only area I can feasibly see a highway being added though would on I-526 on the island between NC and Daniel Island, make an intersection from there makes landfall a bit further north above Clements Ferry road and take the high way to Florence, for added points expand the network around Myrtle Beach at the same time and connect both highways at Florence.

Lots of work going on in Greenville, but I'm not sure which is the best. Greenwood definitely needs a spur.

It would be easiest to add a spur to Sumter I think though, just elevate key intersections of 378 (which there aren’t many of). And Cola basically has two, I-126 and S.C.-277 (which meets interstate standards.

I would like Greenwood's transportation infrastructure improved. Bypass 25 needs to be widened to four lanes south of Greenwood. United States Route 25 needs to be widened to four lanes from Greenwood to Trenton in Edgefield County.

Hilton Head Island could use an interstate highway spur. The logical idea would be Bluffton Parkway's extension from South Carolina Highway 170 to Interstate 95.

Columbia has the best system with three primary interstates forming a loop around the city plus two spurs.
It's a shame I-95 wasn't routed through Charleston. Deciding on its current route was one of the most boneheaded moves ever.

If I remember correctly the idea was to spur development in the poorest area of the state.....

The story I heard was that both Columbia and Charleston wanted I-95 routed through their cities so state leaders "compromised" with the current route.
