Drivers license for elderly parent (North: DMV, live, moving to)

My father is moving from AZ to SC. He will live about 10 miles from me, but I am in North Carolina.

Anyway, I personally feel he shouldn't be driving at all anymore. He is 85 and his reflexes are not what they used to be, etc....

My question is, will they have him do the driving portion of the test when he goes in to exchange his AZ license? He will probably pass the written test without a problem. So if that is all they give him, he will probably get the license.

Anyone know?

All I had to take was the eye test and I got my SC license. They even let me keep my Texas license.

I saw that online, but I was hoping there was something for the elderly that would require the driving portion that I couldn't find.

If you really do not want him to be able to drive you could send a certified letter to the drivers licensing office and explain your valid concerns. In order to protect themselves they may require a detailed medical statement from his doctor and also give him a real road test to determine if he can safely operate a car. If he will not listen to you HE WILL HAVE TO LISTEN TO THEM,,, I wouldn't tell him about the letter unless you have to...good luck
