I'm originally from Greenwood, moved to the Greenville area in 2004. Is there any particular reason you are picking Greenwood? ex: job, lake? I moved because it was too small and wasn't really growing any. The economy is not doing too great there right now with the big layoffs at Solutia, Fuji, and with the mills closing years ago. Its kind of isolated as there are no interstates or freeways that runs through it. City population is 22,000+ with county population coming in at around 68,000. So its not that big and its mostly rural. What are you wanting to know? Stats are on city-data.com

Possible job in Greenwood. Do you know anything about the schools? Are there any private ones?

Only private school I know of is Cambridge Academy and some of the smaller Christian schools. Public school system isn't the best.

Have you moved already? I live in Greenwood. Moved here 11 years ago from a huge suburb of Chicago. It is a challenge moving from a big city to Greenwood. There are pluses and minuses. The public schools are not the greatest. I know, one hears Chicago schools stink and they do. But the north suburban schools were excellent. So by comparison these schools are not. They are trying though and nothing prevented me as a parent from improving on it at home. As another poster said, there is Cambridge Academy no religious affiliation. Greenwood Christian, Hopewood Christian. You guessed it, a lot of Christian schools. If you are into outdoorsy and sporty, this is the place for you. Fishing, swimming, tennis, hunting, golf, horses, baseball, football. Shopping is terrible, but they are working on that too. They got rid of the Blue Law and that might encourage stores to move in. The mall is pathetic. But we are a 1 hr. quick drive to Greenville and there is great shopping. If you live in the city you know what I mean by 1 hr. quick drive. Where I used to live it took a half an hour to drive 3 miles with all the traffic. Not here. There is a great regional hospital, Self Regional. As for housing. There are a lot of subdivisions. Some on golf courses. Some not. Some gated, some not. I live in a gated community called Gatewood. We chose it for many reasons. Our kids could ride their bikes to each other's houses, lots of mature trees, pretty lakes, all in all pretty. It has a swimming pool, tennis courts and a club house. We do pay a monthly fee that covers membership, food allowance and maintaining common property. Though others have posted here on this message board that a fee is unusual other subdivisions do pay fees just different inclusions. We weighed what was important to us and accepted the fee.
