I have a job offer in North Charleston, SC. However, my family really wants to be in the (southern) Myrtle Beach area. That's quite the distance between the two so that puts me in quite the predicament. Looking at a map I only see one real city between the areas and that's Georgetown. I have been coming to the Grand Strand for over 15 years and I do love it. I've also been to Charleston and while nice, I'd still prefer the Myrtle area (I know that probably makes me crazy). But as a software engineer, the development world in Myrtle Beach is next to non-existent. So relocating to the area (as far as I am aware) is going to mean taking the job in Charleston. So I guess my question is does something exist between the two? Is there a good compromise I haven't thought about? Is Georgetown just an absurd distance to commute from? There does not appear to be much of a real estate market between Mt Pleasant and Georgetown. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Yeah, there's just not much, other than Georgetown, between MYB and Charleston. And yes, I think the commute from G'town to N Chas would get very old, very quickly. Even with no traffic around the US 17/I-526 interchange in Mount Pleasant (dream on), it would be over an hour one-way...and I have no idea how schools, etc. are in the Georgetown area.

Don't you have to live closer to your job?
If you have to work, you have to live close to your job.
Vacation in MB, when you want to. That is what everyone
has to do.

My advice would be to look to live in the Summerville area. It's affordable and very family-friendly, plus it's convenient to where you'll be working in N Chas. You're an easy 30-45 minute drive to Downtown Charleston and the area beaches, and you can be in Myrtle Beach in 1.5-2 hours for a day trip or quick overnight/weekend getaway.
