Has anyone seen this new TV? The beginning of the ad shows a stat saying that 39,000 jobs have been lost in the state since President Obama took office. It then goes on with the standard "vote for me" speech that most politicians say when they're running for higher office.
Is it just me or is something terribly misleading about this ad? IMO it would make sense to attack the president on job losses if he were running for a House or Senate seat but if you're running for governor and your issue is job losses wouldn't you want to attack the one person who is actually responsible for bringing jobs to the state....that one person being the current governor Mark Sanford.
In SC, if you want to score political points with the most voters, you must attack Democrats. It doesn't need to be logical or make sense, just attack Democrats.
I'm sure he'll be attacking Sanford before it's over, but since Sanford is a lame duck there's really not much logic in wasting air-time there, either. Wait until all the ladies-in-waiting start wading in against each other. Then the real fun will begin....

Or...run on that good old throw back "family values" yeah....

Job loss scenario was caused long before Obama took office.
Oh he definitely pokes Sanford in this commercial:
“Taxpayers no longer trust their government. There’s been too much dishonesty and too many scandals. Not long ago, South Carolina was a leader in creating new jobs. I know we can do it again.”
Referring to the recent Sanford scandal(s) as well as the feeling many Republicans have (and are willing to say now) that Sanford has not been the economic development recruiter the way they remember Carroll Campbell being.

The sad part is that Obama hasn't done anything to improve the job market. His "stimulus" was a joke. Where are the 3 to 4 million jobs Obama promised to create? Independents who voted for Obama are starting to doubt his abilities, so a jab at him in an ad, may just work, to win the huge independent swing vote.

I still think it's way too early to accurately gauge the success of the stimulus. We're talking about an almost 1 trillion dollar project that is only 6 months old and hasn't been fully implemented. If, say, a year and a half from now we haven't seen some sort of positive turn from the stimulus then I'd be comfortable with saying it was a failure.
As for the ad, it's a cheap shot because while saying that SC lost 39,000 jobs in 7 months (time Obama has been in office) it says nothing about how many have been lost under Bush and/or Sanford, which I'm sure are a lot more.
I agree completely, but isn't that a reflection of the state of politics in this state? When was the last time anyone tried to run on substance? Attacks, lies, and innuendoes intended to incite animosity are much more effective. If it's not a 10-second sound byte, too many voters get bored and walk away. And sound bytes are all about cheap shots...

The guy has only been in office for 7 months; that is way too early to gauge anything.
