My husband and I are thinking about relocating to Chamberlain or Yankton SD. We lived in a town in Wyoming with about the same population as Chamberlain, this town was very clannish and really never accepted outsiders. We were just wondering if these town were similar in this way.

I haven't lived there, but my friend moved there over 4 years ago. She had no friends or family there, moved for her husband's job, and she absolutely loves it. I think experiences are individual, so others may have found different, but that's her experience (plus it is so beautiful there!)..

there's a big difference between the two.. chamberlain is kind of 'out there' a ways away from anything and on the small side.. yankton is much larger and has all the amenities a person would need without having to leave. They are both fairly pretty areas.

A decade or so ago I drove across I-90 and remember that I stopped for a bit at Chamberlin to look around. It was in early May and a chill wind was whipping across the plains on that day. There were whitecaps on the Missouri. One of the reasons I stopped was to visit the Lewis and Clark historical marker at Chamberlin and have a look at the river and reservoir just below town. The sky is blue, the air is clean, and it seems like a typical small town in the great plains. You would probably drive 60 or so miles east on I-90 to Mitchell for shopping from time to time.

I live in Chamberlain and grew up in the area on a farm. People here are friendly and willing to help out. Yeah you will find some people in any town that think they are better or that there are "clicks" or "clans". So what!! You will meet great people and make new friends in no time. We are a small town with about 2500 people but we do a lot here. Lots of hunting and fishing and major sports events along with a nice resort. Cheaper living easy relaxing pace. For a smaller town there are a lot job openings. Its about 60 miles to mitchell or 130 to Sioux Falls or 200 to Rapid City.Come check us out.
