Hi, new here. Can anyone tell me what parts of SD get the highest average of snow? I'm looking for someplace really cold.

Are you looking for cold, or snow? They are different around here. haha

Usually, if it's really cold, it won't snow. The coldest portion of the state is the East River area. I'd say more toward the North East quarter of the state gets a little more wind, although the South East quarter gets their fair share.

West River tends to be a little warmer, but they also tend to get more snow. That's because the Black Hill will cause storms to buck a little and when that happens, they tend to drop a little more.

mtforestdweller-

By the looks of your name I am guessing that you might like mountains, forests, and all the snow that comes with it. With that in mind, you may want to try the Northern Black Hills. The region has high annual snowfall nad there are ski resorts and gambling resorts to hold your interests.

The major cities in that region are Deadwood, Spearfish, Sturgis, and Lead. Personally, I believe that it is the most beautiful part of the Black Hills and it tends to stay cooler there even during the summer months.

I have a friend with a cabin near Terry Peak and he came to school one day and said that it had snowed over a foot at his cabin.
It was May 20th!!!!
