Wow Bob,
I wish I was in your position. I've still got to work and save another 10 - 15 years I think but eventually, I'll be there. My advice, put your house up for sale, pack your bags and head to the hills. It's just the best place there is. I've traveled around the U.S. a bit and lived in a lot of different places. The black hills feels like home to me every time I go there and I swear, it will be my home someday.

Good luck.

Thats cool, I moved from Vermont to Aberdeen SD, and now I'm looking to relocate to Lead/Deadwood myself. I'll be out there this next weekend to do some Skiing and scouting for housing.

PA2SFLA2?,
Just catching up on my forum readings and I noticed that your Public Profile is a lot like mine. I retired from Law Enforcement 16 years ago, made the move out here, and NO one can get me out of this area. Along with fishing and hunting, I had to include a Rock and Mineral interest in mine. I am sure you will like it here. Several retired Law Enforcement people have moved to this area.
Bob

I am glad I found this website! I am also thinking of relocating to Deadwood. I am currently working in a casino in Cripple Creek Colorado as a bartender/cocktail waitress and am wondering how employment is in that area for that field and if they hire older women (I am 58) I am planning on visiting the area in June .... espcially if there is a possiblity in continuing working the same type of job. Any help would be appreciated THANKS

Hi Mar and welcome to the forum. I can't tell you if there are currently any openings in the casinos/bars in Deadwood, BUT I do know that you don't have to be young to get employment there. I've seen gals in there who looked older then I am and I'm not too far behind you.

Like Jammie said, you would have no problem getting hired. I am not 21 yet, but some guys I work with go up there for fun and most of the workers are not young. My cousin is a dealer up there too. She's 24 and she's probably one of the youngest. She says it's a lot of fun too and she makes some pretty good money.

Which reminds me, anyone see the movie 21 yet? It's really good!

Danny, do you know anything about the wages that the casinos offer or if they take care of their employees with benies and stuff? It may be helpful for someone looking for employment there if we could find out.

My cousin told me they start at about $12 per hour plus tips, which are usually very good. I am not sure about benies and such, but I will remember to ask next time I see her.

Wow, that's actually a very good starting wage!!! I would imagine that they make quite a bit of tips on the weekend and during the summer, too.
