Well the Bill was voted down so that's the end of that. The bar has closed down and waiting new owners. Hopefully a nice bar will open up and the vacant premises in Lead will fill up with galleries, speciality shops and eateries. Pity about the Stamp Mill.
Lead is such a lovely town.

Default One Negative:

LOTS of meth in the Black Hills. Lead is in a beautiful setting, but it has a bit of a creepy vibe that I can't quite put my finger on.
The people in eastern South Dakota remind me of how Garrison Keillor describes the people of Lake Wobegon: polite, shy, industrious Scandinavians. People in "West River" South Dakota & the Black Hills are no less friendly, but a lot more rough around the edges.

Lead is a bit rough around the edges. The town has mostly mining or public lands surrounding it. There are a couple new areas, but the majority of it is quite old. Homes built after 1940 are rare. We were also ranked as the 5th snowiest place in the Nation that has more than 1,000 people (202 inch average yearly). The snow and steep hills tend to attract/create a tougher more adventurous personality type, while they fend off year round retirees.

As far as the meth thing, I would like to see a specific cite for such a bold claim. Typically this type of knowledge when not cited comes from direct experience, or is simply exaggerated or just plain false.

Are the casinos in Deadwood still smoke-free? I've noticed you can still get smoking rooms so I wondered if they backed off the smoking laws in the casinos? Thanks in advance for any info!

The casinos are 100% smoke free, but some of the hotel/motel operations still offer smoking rooms. There is a cigar bar that is exempt and has no slots Below the Oyster Bay - They have beer, wine, live music, and of course tobacco.
