Hi,

Is visiting S Dakota in November (around Thanksgiving) a good idea? Will it not be too chilly visit Mt. Rushmore and the badlands?

Thanks!

You should be fine. There could be some snow, but I doubt there would be much. But it is South Dakota and can change it's mind any time it wants to.

You didn't mention where you were visiting from. Are you used to driving in the snow?

November will be very cold if you are not used to cooler temperatures. You will not see throngs of tourists and fannypacks at Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse and the Badlands. Hotel rates should be very low too. It saves a lot when you decide to "play tourist" in the off-season!

Kind of a bad time though. Too cold to swim, too warm to ICE FISH!

Go for it. Expect the nights to be cool and the days sunny. Bring an extra sweater or sweatshirt and you will be fine.

It must get alot warmer down there in the Hills area then where we are. Last november we were sitting with 80 MPH winds and Windchills of -30 to -40 below. Forced us off the ranch and into town for the winter. Of course we're way up north though in Harding county LOL.

Yeah, it does depend on where you are. The Hills give a lot of shelter that you might not find elsewhere. Still, november is not the nastiest month.

uh

Average Weather for Rapid City, SD - Temperature and Precipitation

Hi Rituloy, the above site should give you a good idea of the weather you'll have in the Hills area. Of course, it only lists the AVERAGES so you never know. I guess how tolerable you'll find the weather depends on where you live. If you decide on coming here, I hope you have a great time.
