Hi everyone. I am a teacher from New York. I have been a substitute teacher with one leave replacement under my belt. I am certified in Phys Ed, FACS, and Health Ed and have my masters. I know you need a Masters in NY to be considered as a teacher but I don't know if this hurts me in other states. Now that I gave you my resume lol I am looking to relocate because they keep laying off teachers in NY. It is nearly impossible to get a teaching job in NY. It is really bad here for teachers. Does South Dakota need teachers? If not do you know of any other states in need? Thank you for taking the time to read this.

First, you do realize that SD teachers are usually the lowest paid in the Union...don't you? The masters degree will probably hurt you because the schools are usually looking for the lowest paid warm body to fill positions. Many schools have reduced or eliminated their FACS programs because of the budget crunch. Being a PE teacher might be a redeeming qualification...they're always looking for coaches.

Just like the other poster said, teachers are in need in every state, but some states have a limited budget and aren't able to hire teachers as needed. SD seems to have little teacher job postings, expect for key areas like English and math.
