I am glad to see Mitchell developing nicely. It is such a friendly town and it seems like a great community!

Danny and Chris, I'm glad to hear that you both think highly of Mitchell. I like it, too but sometimes it's hard to truly evaluate a place if you've always lived around there.

Yea, Mitchell was definitely stagnant for a lot of years. I couldn't really tell you how long, but I don't believe our population changed significantly since back in the early 70s. Who knows? It may have been longer then that. We aren't growing dramatically, but comfortably.

If Yankton was closer to the interstate or US 81 was a four laned up to I-90 or to Mitchell, Yankton would be a booming place. It is growing but at a slower rate than Mitchell. I like Yankton and Lewis and Clark Lake.

I always liked Yankton, too. We haven't been down there for several years though. Do they still have the nice beach area there?

Watertown South Dakota Tranportaion Plan ....The future of South Dakotas soon to be 3rd largest city......Take a look through this and you will se what I mean

http://www.watertowntransportation.c...TP_FigES-4.pdf Look at this development.....Streching out too I29 and more!!! Unreal

http://www.watertowntransportation.c.../Table%201.pdf This tells it all...IMO aberdeen and no other city will keep up with Watertown as the future comes near...Just my opinion but the documentation is clear? Any comments please!!!!

One thing is clear..That the 2006 census and the census estimates are way off imo...Its a known fact that sufu is over 150,000 now and census has it at 142,000 mitchell at around 17,000 and census has 14,9000 and watertown 2004 study has population at 22,182.....and census had 20,526...The true # comes at the decade ending 2010...I personally think the estimates are a ways behind??? anyone else?

I know that they are off. That census puts Rapid City at 53,000. That was probably the population in the early 90s. Signs at the entrance to Rapid City have it at 68,000 and those were put there in 2000.

Acually Rapid city 2000 census was 59,000 FACT...The 2006 census estimates has it at 63,000 not 53,000....But thats not the point, I think its easy to see the estimates are all low, so far rapid, sufu, watertown, and mitchell on this board have all been reported low...By the way , in june of each year up untill 2010 the census release there estimates...To see these just go to this website we are on, it has all the 2006 census estimates

2006 estimates ..................debated reality

sioux falls......142,000...........acually its over ...150,000+
watertown.....20,500............in 2004 it was..22,200+
mitchell.........14,900............reported here to be 17,000+
rapid ...........63,000.............reported here 68,000+
aberdeen..... 24,000............IMO aberdeen has broke into 23's

OK this is just about Mitchell............OUT TODAY........ The Daily Republic (http://www.mitchellrepublic.com/articles/index.cfm?id=24233&section=News&freebie_check&CFID =881318&CFTOKEN=94348539&jsessionid=883047f86be04b 624a6f - broken link)
Has recession taken hold in Mitchell? More likely fading boom, experts say

Newly compiled statistics from 2007 indicate that Mitchell did not experience a banner economic year.
Whether the city is experiencing a downturn or recession similar to what’s affecting other parts of the nation is open to interpretation. Local experts seem to agree that Mitchell’s boom of the past few years is over, but the city’s economy has not gone bust.

Business101, i noticed you joined the forum only a few days, but you bring a lot of negativity...what are you trying to accomplish? Watertown is a great city, but nothing spectacular compared to other SD cities...and with the 2,000 jobs coming to Aberdeen, I don't see Watertown moving its rank...I haven't heard of any jobs coming to Watertown... and I haven't seen any commercials for the "rising star" lately?

MJ..........Im not trying to accomplish anything lol...I was simply giving my input in the population changes in the top 20 cities...Since I know watertown obviously thats what I comment on.....No negativity here...What is negative about facts? I hardly post my opinion just facts...Any way besides rapid and sioux falls name 1 city that has the up on watertown...as you say watertown is a great city but not compared to other sd cities? name 1?Aberdeen has been stagnent for decades.Watertown now #4 in poulation has increased 14% each of the last 2 decades....2004 case study has watertown at 22,200 and aberdeen going under 24,000? Just the facts,,,But yes MJ I did read that argus leader article about aberdeen, good for them.....But watertown has twice as many building permits per year and if you look at business expansion and startups since 2000, watertown trumps aberdeen and every other city besides sufu and rapid...Brooking is the real wild card , although the city is only 9,000, they count college kids so it is around 19,000...They have around equal building permit #'s compared to watertown....Obviously no one competes with the state's engine sioux falls, and rapid is in its own league too................I have done alot of research on all these numbers and I just post the facts.......To your comment about the rising star, watertown just got a new logo and a new song and commercial, just starting to air agian now...not like it matters though........just posting what i know...nothing personal!!! ever!!!
