Hi Natasha and welcome to the forum. Could you tell us where you will be landing so we can let you know what's in that area? Will you be landing in Sioux Falls or Rapid City?

Hello Natasha,

South Dakota is one of the largest states in the United States, but there are not very many people who live here. When you are here, you will see a lot of ranches, farms, and small towns. Sioux Falls is our largest city with about 160,000 people and Rapid City is our second largest with about 80,000 people. The Black Hills is a forested mountain range in the western part of the state and it is the most popular place in South Dakota for tourists and visitors. Mount Rushmore is located in the Black Hills. When you are here, do not be surprised if it gets as hot as 35-40 degrees celsius. it is very hot in South Dakota during the summer.

Have a fun trip!

If you are in Wall you will probably be very bored! Wall is a very small town about 50 miles east of Rapid City and the Black Hills. Wall is on the prairie and it is close to the Badlands. Snakes are very common in the summer on the prairies so always go outside with someone you know and be careful in tall grass.

I am sure you will be going to Rapid City and the Black Hills very often too. You will have a lot of fun there!

Are you going to be working at Wall Drug for the summer? They have people from all over the world working for them. If you are, it would be a fun summer job, in my opinion. Be sure to check out all the tourist activities in South Dakota if you can.

If you will be working at Wall Drug this summer, will they be taking you on a tour anywhere else? You won't be too far from the Badlands and they're beautiful. If they take you somewhere (Or if you have a car), be sure to visit the Black Hills area. There is so much to see and do there.

As far as snakes, unfortunately we have them. Since you will be West River, the snake you'll most want to avoid is the rattlesnake. Actually, I hate all snakes, but the other ones that we have up here aren't poisonous.

Twisters are not very common around Wall nor the Black Hills. They happen mostly around Sioux Falls and states to the south of us like Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas.
