We have a red/orange sunrise this morning with an ice blue sky. Rapid is still digging out but the roads look good to go here.

We are having an absolutely gorgues sunrise this morning in Hot Springs. The deer are grazing in front of my house. The snow is nearly gone. Life is good.

Another bright red sunrise, but the sky is overcast. Life is still good.

Foggy and lower 20s this morning. The trees looked amazing with the thick layer of frost on them.

We have dense fog spilling in over the 7 Sisters from the south east. Visibility must be zero on the Rez. Winds are calm. Nebraska has disappeared.

Everyone in eastern WI is complaining its too warm and no snow on Christmas but living in Brookings SD I'm just happy to be able to enjoy some outside time with temps around or above 50 as 50 is a virtual impossibility in Brookings during these months. With any snow cover at all it rarely gets much above 35 degrees in Brookings during meteorological winter and is usually under 30, more commonly around 25 or less.

That said as pointed out by many Wisconsinites who like to fish, this is a perfect area for ice fishing and setting up ice shacks. They often come this way when Wisconsin is too warm for good ice thickness, and the southern half often is.

Its staying above freezing all week including at night when I visit. The projected high today is 54 and it hit 52 yesterday. For what its worth this is considered above average for them but its not that uncommon for Milwaukee metro with zero snow cover.

The Southern Black Hills received some light freezing rain last night. The roads were dry around 9 pm, but there is a light cover of ice this morning. Wind is expected to increase this afternoon. Storm warnings are out for the plains, east of the Hills.

We have had light snow flurries all day that are not falling but moving north to south pretty quickly with some intermittently moving very fast.

While most of you have gotten lots of snow over the past 24 hrs, here in the Vermillion area we only got about 1/2 inch of wet snow. I've noticed over time that Brookings gets MUCH more snow than Vermillion every year, and we're only about an hour and a half apart! Useful information for anyone deciding between attending USD or SDSU .
