I hope no one here knows anyone flying out of NYC today. A plane is down in the river. It's on the news right now. They think the plane was attacked by bird strikes.

I wonder how many of those people thought about God as the plane was hitting the water...

Even Atheists believe during their darkest hour...
Or so I've heard, how would anyone know?

Just to clarify...the plane flew through a flock of (possible - unconfirmed) Canada geese. Birds don't attack jumbo jets. The airport is very near a migratory flyway, so it was only a matter of time before something like this happened - purely by accident. What remains to be seen is whether the birds were over airport property (and hence the responsibility of the airport to harass and/or remove), and if the plane was cleared for takeoff with the birds in the area. If they were outside the airport property at the time of intake, then the chances of the airport being held liable are small.

Thankfully, the crew was more than competent, the plane was evacuated smoothly, and no passengers or bystanders were injured.

It was a very lucky scenario. everybody knew how to react and exactly what to do so chaos was minimal. It's strange how many planes crash in/near Manhattan. Weren't there a couple after 9/11 too?

to you, too! LOL! Sorry - it's my line of work, and I tend to be a bit technical at times! Actually, they won't know for sure what species it was until they scrape the remains out of the engines (if there's anything left after the engines were submerged!).

A co-worker told me about it when I was working... I'm just glad everything turned out the way it did!

Me, too! I had a friend flying into LaGuardia today! She landed about the time this took place!
