I see that Rapid City got a quite a blizzard yesterday. It reminds me of the blizzard the city had in mid-may of 2005 when I lived there. The snow was wet and heavy, and brought down many trees since they already had their leaves.

Rapid City got 11" of snow in one day! More than we've ever gotten in all the past Mays put together since records were kept!

Yes, 11" of snow is a substantial amount, but when blown by 60 mph winds, it seemed like 100"! I need the snow shovel to dig my way to the snow blower! This storm began with thunder and lightning, weird!

That's sort of like how the May '05 storm started...thunder, freezing rain, and hail (actual hail, much bigger than just sleet), then turned to snow.

Hmm...didn't Rapid get over a foot from the May '05 storm??

(By the way, referring to Rapid City as "Rapid" proves I was a local for at least a short time!)

I don't recall a May '05 blizzard. I looked back on KOTA and this is the most snow we've ever gotten at once in May.

I was talking to someone yesterday in Spearfish-the only way they could get to work was on a snowcat!!! How cool is that?
