Kristi Noem Upset Amtrak Won't Use Infrastructure Money For Rail Lines to Alaska, Hawaii and South Dakota

https://www.newsweek.com/kristi-noem...dakota-1580594

Amtrak's even returning to CHeyenne, Wyoming.

I think SD needs rail too.

I think she was pointing out that the bill is politically motivated by singling out her state (South Dakota) to not get funds (it isn't possible to connect rail to Hawaii, or to Alaska without a huge investment in Canada). She doesn't support the bill at all.

Newsweek, as is customary, intentionally took her critique out of context to try to make her look bad.

She looks bad regardless of what Newsweek says.

You're right, she's no Andrew Cuomo. If she had had the foresight to send covid positive patients to nursing homes like he did she might have gotten an Emmy award too.

If only South Dakota elected someone as thoughtful, intelligent, honest, and caring as Andrew Cuomo. If only...

I personally would love to see an Amtrak connection from MSP to Sioux Falls to Omaha, NE and think it would be well-utilized. I'd also love to see a mini re-route of tracks through Southeastern MN to include a stop in Rochester, MN between WI and MSP.

It really bothers me that Gov Noem is attempting to politicize this in a way that garners negative national attention as opposed to attempting to constructively work with government officials that may have an openness to getting the ball rolling on planning that could someday be inclusive of SD. She seems much more interested in garnering headlines to continue to raise her national profile vs working on behalf of actual South Dakotans.

Seeing that the closest Amtrak connection would be 181 miles to Omaha, NE to accommodate the 170K residents of Sioux Falls it seems just asinine and ignorant to request or justify such an expense to the Other 49 states.

I think the Gov's speechifying about this was asinine and ignorant, but I think a line between Minneapolis-St Paul and Omaha that stops in Sioux Falls could be worthwhile investment. From Omaha it would be nice to have a line that keeps going south to Oklahoma City, which would then connect to existing tracks going as far south as San Antonio.

Did you all miss the memo where the white house gave SD a C rating in transportation infrastructure.....yet they offered no money....oh the irony is killing me. Then again Biden is a d bag.
