I have a picture of my great-grandparents in Sherman Township (just SE of White) in Brookings County. I know it is them because it's an heirloom photo from nearly 100 years ago and I have other pictures of them. Someone in a SD group claimed the photo had to be taken in the "old country" and not SD because of the tile roof, but this was the home my great-grandfather lived in and I was wondering if anyone was aware of similar farmhouses with tile roofs. I think my great-grandpa built the home in the "old country" style.
My great-grandfather homesteaded near Clear Lake ( north of Brookings) in the mid-1800s in a sod type of home later building a regular wood farmhouse and what looked like the typical shingles for a home back then. Never heard of tile roofs. My great-grandfather also was a founding member of a church near Clear Lake. The church still stands. All wood. Tile roofs could be possible I guess but never seen any in the countryside.
I dont know, ya know. Im no where near South Dakota. Only drove through once in my life, but I am looking for a place to relocate to, and South Dakota with its policies seems like a good fit.
In looking at places for sale I came across this riverfront cabin that maybe because of my age I just cant get with the price tag on it, but!
It has either one of the craziest shingle jobs ever on its roof, or those are tiles. Check it out!

That isn't a bad price for the location. They also make a metal roof now that looks like tile. Can't tell from the pic what it is.
I like in the eastern half of the state and we have a few tile roofs but not many.
