It is 6 miles, one way, for my hubby to get to his farm job. I am currently not working. This question was asked, on another forum I post on....
for us it's 25 miles, to a walmart, or Grocery store or Menards or our medical Dr.... 9 miles, to a Post Office. all travel/mile references are one way. We do have a gas station (small convience store) about 3 miles away.....
I live on base so I don't have to drive far at all. Wife has to drive a little bit to get to work. She works at La Quinta. Don't know for sure how far mileage wise that is....I suck at guesstimating distances....lol
It takes me less than five minutes (four blocks, which I walk) to get to work with my main job and twnety minutes (seventeen miles) to my other job. No rest for the wicked.
My second job will be within a mile, so I will not have to drive as far. This will save $60 a month in gas and three hours a week, which I can work an extra three hours. Other advantages include less miles put on the car and not having to deal as much with the crappy ice-covered and snowpacked roads in the winter (which happens from time to time during the winter).
Gas is $3.29/gallon for super unleaded at most stations in Sioux Falls. For regular, it is around $3.49/gallon. It has dropped at least 30 cents in the past week. In Lennox, it is selling for $3.39/gallon when I checked yesterday.
I would like to see gas dropping further. More money in my pocket to use for other things. It will be nice, since I have to go to the Twin Cities in two weeks and Colorado in three weeks.
Yes, a lot of it is due to a sluggish economy. But, we still need to push for domestic oil sources and push for measures to keep energy prices stable and reasonable for the average consumers. Alternative energy and hybrids are a must for the future.
I agree with Chris.
By the way, what do you guys put in your vehicle for gas? Do you use regular unleaded or super unleaded (with ethanol)? I've always put the cheapest one in, but I've done a little research and I've heard that putting regular unleaded is the best bet, even though it is more expensive.
I have heard from some that regular gets better mileage as opposed to E-10 and others did not notice a difference. Most of the vehicles I had, I have not noticed any difference. With my 1994 Grand Prix that I had in college, the mileage between the two fuels was not noticeable and I have taken it on at least a dozen roadtrips where I put in regular unleaded (outside of the SD/IA/NE/MN region). I will have to see. I got 34 mpg between Cheyenne and Colorado Springs earlier this summer on 85 octane gas with a 2006 Grand Prix. I was going 70 for most of the stretch, a little slower in Denver. In that I stopped in downtown Denver to visit a couple of friends. I was tickled pink. My brother noticed that his Ford Focus got better mileage in Wyoming and his side trips to Colorado as opposed to when he lived in central Iowa.
A side note: I filled up on West 12th St. and paid $3.21 a gallon. Grin, grin. I seen one place that was under $3.20 a gallon. Most places in Sioux Falls are still $3.29 with a few places at $3.25.
Hmm... Occasionally, I'll see where the regular and super are the same price (usually out of SF). $3.21? Did you go to a cash-only station?
