I can understand why we as taxpayers have to pay for money hungary theives on Wall Street, but what consequences do they have to suffer for what they have done? Just does not seem right to me.
I agree, this is pathetic.....I would bet Bush or Cheaney have stakes in these companies .....
I also see oil jumped $16 dollars because of this and the fact that the dollar fell $.04 against the euro, so I'm sure the prices will skyrocket again.....
It's always good to think positive, but I've gotta tell you that I'm starting to think our country is going down the tubes. The politicians aren't suffering and it is starting to seem that they honestly don't care about the rest of us.
I'm just a bit frustrated today. I always try to think AND talk about the good in our country AND in our state. WELL, there are two incidences that have just happened recently that our local and state govt. had their hands in (or lack thereof) and those slackers are just as bad as the other beaurocrats in our country~and I'll bet I spelled that word wrong.
Yea, I don't believe that in the grand scheme of things all of these bailouts are going to do anything but put future generations into even MORE debt, I'm 24 now when am I going to be able to retire, probably about 80? Maybe what help with the companies not being bailed out they can save money by not giving their CEO's such large bonus and salaries.....
OMG, now if we could only get those little French people to be nice, we'd all be heading over there. They could give us free everything on the back of their taxpayers. That's the way it works, isn't it?
Pikie, there were actually two sickening incidents. If either hit the papers (which is doubtful, I'll send you the link)
In one situation, someone who was in a position of having power over others was accused of rape about a year ago. WELL, let's just drag our feet and let him keep that position. Fast forward a year and two more gals claim they were also raped by that same person. One whole year in a position he didn't belong in to begin with because if we ignore things, we don't have to do anything. Isn't that the way things like that work, too?
The second situation concerns someone in an office who was a bit sluggish and incompetent. The correct officials at the state level knew this for a few years, but decided on doing nothing until someone pushed HARD. Let's just say that people ending up spending time in jail because one person was lazy and the state turned a blind eye to it cause it's just easier that way.
Things like that just irritate me. We always pride ourselves on having a Midwestern work ethic and having integrity, etc. We aren't any more ambitious or more honest then anyone else in the world and it's just disappointing.
But to get back on topic, we'd better hope that our new elected officials get organized and actually do something. I'm leaning toward not voting for anyone who is in office right now. (I mean at the state level. Obviously we won't be voting for our current Prez and VP.)
The economy in South Dakota seems to weather most of the downturns fairly well Unemployement is still low. Lower than the national average. Housing is still stable and not facing the same crisis we are
As far as the bail out. Its bad form for the goverment to fix the mess. But the damage of another 30s era depression or crash of 29 might be worse for us. Really the troubles companies along with the goverment should be issuing bonds market these bonds to reduce the amount we are borrowing from the likes of China of wherever we beg, borrow or steal from.
