As many times as I have been on the Mammoth Tour, I should know this! It has to be warm enough for grass to grow around a sink hole, I will say 75 degrees?

Default Ground Temperature

The ground temperature in and around Hot Springs where the ground is neither frozen or baked by the sun stays at 73 degrees farenheit so let's give the prize to Pam. The exception is a few area's that are unaffected by the thermal springs that dominate the area. Nice for camping.

Woo-hoo! Thanks, ok staying on the Hot Springs/Mammoth track, there was only one type of Mammoth remains found in the sink hole where the current Mammoth site museum stands in Hot Springs. Which kind of Mammoth remains were found? I"m looking for gender and an age-range.

Good Luck! See, I did pay attention on my tour there. It's a fascinating place!

On a winter afternoon 26000 years ago, in an effort to find greener fodder, a teenage male Columbian mammoth fell over the edge

Obviously, we know where North and South came from, but where did the name Dakota come from?

OK, I'll give this a shot. There were three tribes of Indians here and they were the Lakota and the Dakota and I don't remember the third ones. This is just a guess cause I didn't look it up yet.

Default If you are looking for the 3rd tribe

It is the Nakota. The Nakota, Dakota, & the Lakota are 3 branchs of the Sioux nation. What I want to know is where did Kadoka come from?
