Who is this record-breaking South Dakota biker gal that accomplished this in Utah? AND what town does she live in?
Jammie, that's a tough one. I want to say I saw something on the news a while back and she was from Madison. But I have no clue as to what her name is.

Hint: She broke the records at the Salt Flats in Utah. Her husband and his crew made the cycle for her. The cycle is on display along with the boots she wore. It's amazing because the right boot protected her leg or she wouldn't have accomplished the feat. There was a hole burned in the boot.

There was a show on tv that had done stories about them. It was a countrywide competition for building bikes. This gal's husband was the winner so he was highlighted along with her.

My great-great Aunt Dora was the first Superintendant of the School of the Blind in Gary, South Dakota. She held the position for 6 years. Can anyone tell me her full name and when the school "officially" opened ?

Dora Donald. Although the website says she was superintendent from 1900-03. http://www.experiencegarysd.com/Stoc...ually%20Im.pdf

Have you ever logged onto Buffalo Ridge Resort and looked at what as been done to the school? Really nice. We're planning to spend a weekend there late summer or early fall.

Default Dora Donald Humbert

Thanks for your reply ! According to her obituary in the Gary Interstate of 6 Sept 1934, she went to Gary in 1904 as the first superintendant. She married a music instructor in the School of the Blind, Leroy August Humbert in 1907 and left the school in 1910. She died somewhere west of Gary, but is buried in the Cemetery there. I wish I coud send her portraits/photo's and original newspaper articles to the Historical Library there... Can you help me ? Thanks again.

I'm not sure where/which Historical Library you are referring but you could contact the owners of Buffalo Ridge here Contact Us - Buffalo Ridge Resort

if you want to donate the items to the State I would suggest using some of these contacts. Connect With US
