My ancestors belonged to a religious group that didn't believe in eating certain meats. Eventually they've gotten to where they are vegeterians. I have always been amused that if a person doesn't believe in eating meat, then why to heck do they have to have substitutes for meat like baco flavored bacon bits, loma linda and soy burgers?

I say, "Bring on the beef! 'It's what's for dinner.'" (actually today it's chicken) and last night it was ham loaf.

We raise so many cattle in SD and I raise a few myself so I drive around with a bumper sticker on both my car and pickup that says: "Seven days without beef makes one weak."

Loma Linda? That's a city out in california.

I don't believe in eating dog, horse or human meat. That is, unless I was in something like the Donner party.

To be honest, I never heard of okra until I moved to Califorrnia.

If the feeling of snot in your mouth won't bother you, you'll love it.
Okra is slimey and stickey.
It's really not that bad,,
That's why most people eat it fried, tend to dry up a lot of the slime. Or, they use it in some sort of soup, which I tend to avoid.

I do like tofu though, either stir-fried or in Hot and Sour Soup. Yum. It adds a little something, and takes on the flavor of whatever sauce it is in.

Hi South Dakota people
Once in a while this Okie drops in for a visit. I especially like the "whatcha eatin" thread. Makes me hungry. Has anyone ever eaten bear? I serious, I'm not kidding. When I lived in NM I ate bear once and it wasn't bad. The fat can be rendered down and used to waterproof boots. You guys probably already know that though.

Lol..it's bean curd. Kind of like soy cheese. It comes in different forms though. There's soft which can be used in shakes etc, or firm which can be used in other things. I actually made tofu egg salad once, and no I wouldn't recommend it. If you cut it up and throw it in with stir fry so that it actually gets more texture when it fries, and then add sauce, it's really not bad. And as I said, in my hot and sour soup, the more tofu and bamboo shoots the better, IMO.

Bear is pretty good but needs to be cooked properly. Pretty easy to cook it up and get to greasy.

A previous post mentioned not eating dog. Dog isn't have bad. Neither is cat (Small). Best meat I've eaten is Mountain Lion.

But for tonight. Fried Chicken, Baked spud, spanish corn (That's regular corn with a couple heaping dolups of my salsa thrown in)
