Due to location and primary industries we feel the effects later than other parts of the country. So the brunt of the recession and subsequent upturn we as a locale will feel the effects later than other parts.

Also due to the same factors as I hinted to before I think we are somewhat shielded from full effects of a recession. We had at the most 5% unemployment rate while the rest of the nation had a 10% unemployment rate.

Default Re

Also Keep in mind there was not a huge run up in real estate in SD relative to the rest of the nation. That is a big part of why all this is happening.

The recession would have been worse for us if agriculture was hit hard, which it was not compared to other recessions such as the ones in the early 1980s. Still, things are tight for many people.

My guess is that it will take time for South Dakota and rest of the nation to get out of the recession. Things may start to gradually improve further this year but the improvement will be more noticeable in the next year or two.

Im going to say yes... not because I know for sure it is true, but simply because I am so tired of the media focusing on the negative... let's say yes and hope for the best!

Where I live the Army Base is keeping all of the contractors and construction people busy, but that's not permanent. This country needs good paying, middle class factory jobs if we are ever to undo the damage the "world economy" has done

Ag prices are trending down which tends to happen when economy upturns. The economy tends to run in cycles highs and lows.

well that depends on who defines if we are in a recession or not.
working up at Walmart, i don't know how many people I've herd say "What recession" in response to how busy it normally is.

in my point of view, as was this holiday season, Americans are sick and tired of hearing about it, and are just going about there normal spending habits.
