Since Hot Springs and the surrounding area is situated above a geo-thermal reservoir, I am planning to have a geo-thermal heat pump or exchanger installed in the house I plan to build. Has anyone had any experiances with such a heating and cooling system? Are there any fine points I should know about before starting construction?

Yes...the water is very hard, which is why it is warm. We are actually atop the Madison aquifer. Under Wind Cave, there are huge lakes...a part of that aquifer, I imagine. There are 144 springs in the Fall River valley, but they are not all warm, indicating that they arise from different subterranean levels. We have put three water heaters in our house over the last 13 years because of the hard water and because we have no water softener.
