I remember reading somewhere this past summer that AT&T was buying out Alltel in south dakota and they would be up and running by this December. Any word on this?

Verizon is buying them out in the Dakotas next year. Verizon already bought out Alltel here in MN. I have Alltel in South Dakota and there are no Alltel shops here in the Twin Cities, so I have been getting the run around when I try for cutomer service.

Being Verizon was already in this market it creates monopoly in South Dakota. So in order to complete the sale Verizon had to sell Alltel assets in South Dakota and few other markets. AT&T is purchasing those assets. The acquisition by AT&T is going to take 18 to 24 month. I was talking with Alltel reps a couple of weeks ago.

Yea, Alltel will become AT&T here in South Dakota sometime next year, that's why there are running only 1 year contracts, so you don't have to be locked into AT&T when they convert, I for one cannot wait for the Iphone
