Hello All, I've read some of the previous posts concerning relocating to South Dakota. My family and I are seriously considering SD, among a few other states, in which to relocate in a year or so. My main concerns, and the reasons we are considering relocating from our current state, are poor schools, an unfriendliness and excessive taxes. My husband is a physician and though we earn a nice living we have many children which we send to private schools. The private schools in our area are extremely expensive and inaddition to the high cost here in just about everything we feel squeezed. I want to know what you all think about your private and public schools. In addition my husband is East Indian and I'm of Latin American extraction. That is not a problem in our current state what about in SD? Any additional comments and suggestions are welcomed. Thanks

Hi, I'm mostly familiar with eastern SD. Sioux Falls, SD is a very diverse area and is growing more that way every day. I went to the multi-cultural center for a class last fall, and the statistics the director gave us were quite high as far as diversity in the Sioux Falls area. I've not heard negative comments from anyone I have met through class or know there that is of mixed cultures. The college I go to is actually teaching more and more about diversity every year because of the increase in diversity throughout the area. The following link shows information for the private schools in Sioux Falls. Pretty much either Christian or Catholic. The public schools are culture friendly from what I've heard from the counselors there, in fact a few of them were in my diversity class last fall, to help them with the wide range of diversity in the schools. Best wishes on your journey towards a new home!

Thank you Raean. I already looked up a couple of the schools and just comparing tuition is a huge difference to my current state. Like my present state it seems that a large number of Californians have moved to SD? Is this true? If so where do they seem to be relocating to? What are the positives and negatives. In my current state the Californians have moved in and the real estate went through the roof.

Also, your comments on diversity were welcomed. My husband and I lived in a small city in the south, very German, and we loved it. We felt apart of the community.
