Just reading about how after 33 years since it left earth the Voyager 1 spacecraft is now at the point of the giant heliosheath that surrounds our solar system where there is no longer any solar wind from the sun and by 2014 will pass thru the barrier (heliopause) into interstellar space that lays between the numerous star systems.

It's the first craft to arrive amongst the four current spaceships (Voyager's 1 & 2 and Pioneer's 10 & 11) heading into interstellar space as lets hope there wont be four V'Gers returning back to earth one day .

Popular Sci also had another good article in this months edition about the ''Pioneer anomaly'' about how back in 1980 after passing the last of the solar system planets heading out of the solar system that both the pioneer's spacecraft started slowing down instead of speeding up being far from the any planet or the sun's gravitational pull as it had NASA scientists dumbfounded (malfunctioning instruments, dark energy etc. ??) back then as they are still guessing about the mystery today although some believe that they now know what the cause was.

Anyway cool stuff

How does it "prepare" to enter interstellar space?
Shields up? Go to red alert?
