what makes you believe that say if we teraform mars that we wont be killing eachother off on mars, humans are humans,, do you think we would be any different in space
good they are testing out VASMIR
VASIMR is a plasma-based propulsion system. An electric power source is used to ionize fuel into plasma. Electric fields heat and accelerate the plasma while the magnetic fields direct the plasma in the proper direction as it is ejected from the engine, creating thrust for the spacecraft. The engine can even vary the amount of thrust generated, allowing it to increase or decrease its acceleration. It even features an "afterburner" mode that sacrifices fuel efficiency for additional speed. Possible fuels for the VASIMR engine could include hydrogen, helium, and deuterium.
With all the hype about the so-called Arab Spring, the debt ceiling, the Eurozone debt crisis, the Great Kanto region earthquake and subsequent irradiation of tens of thousands of Japanese and to a lesser extent milions more along the US west coast, etc. this has totally been under the news' radar. Flashy and emotional stories get the news, not science.
Anyway ...
I think this will be really cool. But one thing I'm wondering is, why not use solar panels like they did with Spirit and Opportunity? The things lasted way longer than they were designed for and proved that dust storms weren't a major issue on Mars. Though, perhaps the missions were different and instruments different ... anyone care to elaborate?
