NASA sets buffers for Apollo moon landing sites - Technology & science - Space - Space.com - msnbc.com

How eery would it be to travel to the moon and see the old landing sites and equipment? That would be pretty cool I think.

It'd be pretty cool. Kind of like visiting the Smithsonian. The article seems to be about voicing the interest in preserving the relics before anyone else decides to make a landing near those sites. They do represent the very first times any humans have ever stepped foot on the moon, or driven on it. Perhaps the main concern was about wanting to avoid anyone damaging the equipment, taking souvenirs, or stripping it for spare parts. On the other hand, it's always possible they could be damaged by meteors. Even a very small one could be very damaging.

To think if no-one disturbs those sites they could be there looking exactly like they are now hundreds of millions of years down the road.....

Same for the Russian rover...

Even though I love history, if the Chinese got there and removed it all, I wouldn't be terribly upset. We gave up the idea, we gave up the promise, and those who manage to follow through get to set the rules. History has always been written and re-written by the victors.

I have to agree. Yet another fail by the "Greatest country on the planet".

I say we let whomever gets there next take the bags of pee that Armstrong and Aldrin left behind. Everything else is "Hands Off".

There's more than just bags of pee on the Moon. NASA wants to save Moon poop for science.

Let's just hope it is not an Islamic State that gets there next - they will probably declare it the sole property Allah and Islam and institute Shariah Law - even on the Dark Side. Then use it as a launching station to cleanse the earth of the Kuffar.
