I love science fiction. Science fantasy also.

Anyone has any idea why we need to risk human life at double the cost of what we can do with robots and drones? It used to be we needed to send people to outer space out of technological reasons, now is no longer the case.

I'd volunteer to go, but i want my own first class seat. I don't like flying between Birmingham and Atlanta in economy, much less to the freaking Red Planet. Also, are there in-flight meals? I'm glucose intolerant. Just FYI.

No need. You'll be in a medically induced coma.

Working on and investing in tech to colonize planets that are not compatible with life makes less sense than working on tech to get us to planets that are compatible with life.

You are completely missing the point of colonizing mars.

As A Science Buff And Former Science Major I Assure Everyone We'd Be Lucky To Get 8 People To Mars By The Mid 2030's!

Frankly It May Be Mid 21st Century Before Even One Crew Makes It To Mars.

I really hope I live long enough to see this nonsense come to fruition. With any luck, they'll beam it "Big Brother" style back to those of us back here on earth. It will be fine for awhile, but once the food and water start to run out and the isolation combined with radiation starts to drive people mad, it won't be long until one or more of the colonists goes Shining and the whole colony degenerates into an epic parody of Lord of the Flies as the remaining colonists fight to the death for the last dwindling resources.

How about we take responsibility for what we're doing here before engaging in these escapist Trekie fantasies? Unless we start taking responsibility for our dysfunctional behavior as a species we'll just destroy whatever planet we infect.
