Will this "Mars One" project actually send the first crew to Mars within the next 20 years? (Earth, stars)

I'm putting a poll: do you think the first crew will depart earth with the intentions of making a permanent home in Mars before the year 2034. I'm giving an extra ten years as a cushion for more prep time.

It is difficult to predict 20 years into the future. The biggest stumbling block Mars One faces is solar and cosmic radiation. Presently, we have no means to shield astronauts from deadly radiation without sending tons of lead or other similarly dense material into space. Which is prohibitively expensive. If they were to launch today, using current technology, the astronauts would be dead before they ever reached Mars.
Once on the surface of Mars they will still need radiation shielding of some sort due to Mars having a very weak magnetic field. Such as building their habitat underground, for example. They would not live very long on Mars' surface without radiation shielding.
Several universities are currently working on the problem, but they are no where near having a practical solution yet. Both Purdue University and MIT are working on artificially generating a strong magnetic field, but they are not expected to have anything until sometime around 2024.
So while it may be possible to develop a spacecraft capable of getting astronauts to Mars without killing them by 2034, it is very unlikely that anything will be available within the next decade.

We've been 'less than a decade now!' away from the first crewed mission to Mars for over half a century.
Anyway, your own link doesn't even claim what you say - Mars One currently has 2031 as the planned date for the departure of the first crew.
PS - The Mars One organization has claimed the cost of the project to be $6 billion. That's utterly delusional - it would be orders of magnitude more expensive. At any rate, in the 43 months they've been raising funds, Mars One still hasn't raised their first million. It's either a total scam, or being organized by people who are completely detached from reality.

Mars One does not seem to be a credible organization. Just look at their website. I can't find a single partner listed on the site or anything they have done.
Going to Mars will cost a lot of money. Not even Bezos, Musk, or Branson can afford to do it without help from taxpayers (a NASA contract). Forget Mars One.
The idea of a Mars human exploration gained a lot of attention during late 80's and early 90's. NASA did an analysis and estimated the cost to be around $455B. A guy named Robert Zubrin, a Mars settlement advocate, came up with his own estimate of around $55B. He was even invited to speak to NASA and Congress. Unfortunately, NASA decided not to pursue a Mars human exploration at that time.
Going to Mars will cost a lot of money. Not even Bezos, Musk, or Branson can afford to do it without help from taxpayers (a NASA contract). Forget Mars One.
Yeah, private industry/companies don't have the money/capital to get people to Mars and even if they did, where is the profit? Don't get me wrong, SpaceX is doing great things developing reusable rockets to save money, but remember a company and/or a government is paying them to put cargo, satellites and eventually people into space.
Private industry (unless you're a non-profit) is all about creating money and profit for the owners, investors, and shareholders. None of those companies have the 10's of billions needed to get people to Mars and get nothing in return, unless they sell the TV rights for like $100 billion!
Governments, on the other hand, are not in it for profits and have a lot deeper pockets. Many scientists agree that private industry in space exploration is great, but it will be the governments of countries that will get us there first, if at all.
We will never go to Mars, unless it is with an army.
It is great to be able to dream of going to other places, but when will the government release all the technology which allows us to do it in a reasonable way. Rockets, jets, ion drives, EM drives are all old technology and are there to give us a feeble hope for the future. It is useless for going into space for any distance.
The technology the military are using for their floating, silent massive triangular craft needs to be released and used to help us escape the Earth to the stars.
