Yeah, it is a classic, and I don't just mean the ship. BTW, there was another movie that wasn't bad, called, "When the Earth Stopped." I saw that DVD for rent and thought to myself, "I've gotta see it." Wife and I both liked it.

It's between one of Heinlein's starships (a living being that interfaced with the pilot) and HAL.

I spent a fruitless hour and a half searching for more information myself. I read many Heinlein novels as a kid, something like 30 years ago, the only reference I could find was saying that Farscape stole the concept from Heinlein, but didn't say what the Heinlein novel was that it could be found in.

I found a Heinlein fan site, and asked the question, I'll have to get back with the answer.
