Can't wait for my audiobook to get here............
"Bill McKibben’s new book, “Eaarth – Making a Life on a Tough New Planet”, is a real mind opener, and is probably one of the most important books around today. The misspelling of “Earth” is meant to convey the fact that we currently live on a planet that has been irreversibly changed (for the worse) in the past several decades, due to human economic activity. "
My audio book arrived today and so far it's scary as hell!
Yea, I know the naysayers and the nut jobs will discount anything to do with our planet being in distress but I'll let them suffer from their own ignorance.
The problem with this book, is that although he is good at exposing the dramatic situation of our Planet, he doesn't have a clue as to the real , core cause - demographic explosion - and falls short of proposing the only solution which would give a chance of survival to our planet : tackle demographics, stop the towering numbers.
We are now 7 billion on our tiny blue spaceship, population increased 4 billion since 1950 - a lifetime. So the choice is crystal clear : Birth control or Armaggedon before the end of this century. (but hush hush, this is not politically correct, either with Conservatives nor Progressives...)
Still pushing the Doom & Gloom stuff from the environmental camp huh?
The above sounds like it came right out of Al Gores mouth but instead from this author, Bill McKibben, one of his stooges.
Isn't this the guy who demands the end of cars for bicycles and buses?
His apocalyptic prognostications are hilarious and his ties to the richest elitists on the planet scary.....
Cities like San Francisco have had public transportation for many years, and it has been very successful in conserving energy and reducing air pollution. You do realize, of course, that driving a car is not a right, it is a priveledge.

San Francisco is hardly what anyone would call a typical American city.....
On the other hand, driving a car with the help of direct and indirect government subsidies is not a right.
A right is the sovereignty to act without the permission of others. The concept of a right carries with it an implicit, unstated footnote: you may exercise your rights as long as you do not violate the same rights of another—within this context, rights are an absolute.
A privilege is a special entitlement to immunity granted by the state or another authority to a restricted group, either by birth or on a conditional basis.
You have the privilege of being granted a license to drive a car. But that license is conditional, and can be taken away. It is not a right.

I misread your post. It's all good.
