pre-verbal is hard to explain. He was not really speaking. He had sounds, but few words. He did have a few words he used to label things. His receptive language was pretty bad as well. He did not follow three step directions.

Yes, he learned in the mainstream class with supports - he had resource reading and math pullouts at first and then they switched to push ins.

He was, however, a compliant child who did what the teachers asked or at least tried to do so.

I completely agree with you. Living in NJ my daughter has been able to receive the 1:1 services within the public school. Something we would have had to pay for through the nose if we lived in Texas, as we would have had to gone the private route. Please feel free to ask me any questions as we have dealt with it in TX FL and now NJ

I am in NW Pennsylvania and my daughter is in her senior year.

She goes to the high school for part of her day then for the other half of the day she is taken to vocational training.

IMO Penncrest and Edinboro are two of the better districts in my area. PM me if you want more specific information on which particular schools.

She has also had 1:1 support in the academic classes and we have seen a HUGE improvement in her reading/writing skills.

I have also dealt with NY schools (Upstate) and they are also decent in terms of special ed services.

We have lived in several states and now live in NJ. The school system is great here, our daughter receives 1 to 1 care and I couldnt ask for more. What is difficult is the high cost of living which is why I am looking to see what other states are great for autism care.

We live in Norwalk CT and the special need is horrible here. We are thinking of moving to NJ. Which part of New Jersey would be better to move.
